The paradox of our digital era is evident: the more I immersed myself in my screen, the more I isolated myself from genuine human interactions.
The excitement of receiving likes, comments, and direct messages can be intoxicating. This burst of dopamine provides a temporary feeling of validation and community.
As a generation, we often find our faces glued to our devices. Despite having a multitude of followers and a plethora of online acquaintances, I felt an overwhelming sense of loneliness.
Humans have an innate desire for connection. While social media offers a facade of intimacy, it can never replicate the depth of in-person conversations. Behind curated profile pictures and meticulously edited snapshots are individuals with real struggles and emotions, all yearning for authentic connections.
The Deterioration of Mental Health

What starts as casual scrolling can quickly lead to a spiral into loneliness if left unchecked. At my lowest point, I found myself spending an average of 11 hours a day on social media.
I distinctly recall celebrating my 17th birthday, surrounded by an outpouring of messages on Instagram wishing me well, yet the only feeling I experienced was profound sadness. I had traded my mental well-being for endless scrolling.
Taking the Step to Quit
Deciding to quit was a significant challenge.
It required genuine effort and dedication to exchange my virtual friends for real-life relationships, rediscovering the warmth of human interaction. In this process, I discovered that true happiness stems from lasting friendships and community ties rather than momentary validation.
Years later, I now actively engage in my local fitness community and volunteer twice a week at a community center.
The Transformation After Deleting Social Media
Quitting social media was a transformative decision for me.
While it didn’t solely define who I am today, it was the catalyst for my journey.
