Spotify Launches New Sound Up Program for Diverse Voices in Podcasting

The Evolution of Podcasting
Podcasting emerged quietly, contrasting with the explosive origins of the universe. In the early 2000s, individuals with minimal experience and limited technical skills began to share their narratives through this new medium. These pioneers represented the diverse and underrepresented voices of that era.
Today, Spotify is committed to continuing this legacy by launching the latest iteration of the Sound Up program, designed to uplift underrepresented podcasters. This initiative aims to equip emerging creators with the necessary tools to enhance their platforms and develop their own shows.
Empowering Aspiring Podcasters
The Sound Up program offers an immersive training experience over five months, where up to ten selected aspiring podcasters will receive comprehensive support. This includes in-person training, virtual workshops, and access to essential technology and resources to ensure their success.
Participants will delve into the nuances of podcast creation, focusing on both the artistic and strategic aspects. They will receive expert guidance on crafting high-quality content tailored for families, with insights from professionals in child development, education, and content safety.
Fostering Storytelling and Well-being
A key component of the program is to harness the power of storytelling. Participants will gain practical knowledge to create their own pilot episodes, whether fiction or nonfiction, that consider children's intellectual and emotional needs, fostering a rich co-listening experience for families.
The program will be led by Rekha Murthy, a seasoned independent podcast strategist and long-time partner of Sound Up, alongside Dawn J. Fraser, a professional storyteller and communications coach.
The Future of Podcasting
As podcasting continues to evolve with increased consolidation and the rise of large networks, it is encouraging to see Spotify carve out space for unique voices and stories. The application for the Sound Up program is currently open and can be accessed HERE.
