A Mysterious Glowing Vortex Appears Over Hawaii's Night Sky

Chapter 1: The Glowing Vortex Phenomenon
Recently, a peculiar luminous vortex was witnessed in the night sky above Hawaii. This captivating visual spectacle resembled a spiraling galaxy and is thought to be linked to SpaceX's activities.
Captured on January 18, a video showcased this strange occurrence, displaying a radiant vortex that initially looked like a massive rotating galaxy. Over time, its "arms" expanded and faded, eventually leaving behind a dim spot larger than the surrounding stars before it vanished completely.
What caused this spectacle? Researchers attribute the phenomenon to a SpaceX rocket launch from Florida, which deployed a military satellite into orbit. Observations of this unusual event were made from the summit of Mauna Kea, the highest volcano in Hawaii. This location is home to several astronomical observatories, including Japan’s National Astronomical Observatory, which operates the Subaru Telescope.
Section 1.1: Observations from Mauna Kea
The Subaru Telescope is equipped with the Subaru-Asahi Star Camera. On the day the vortex appeared, a live feed from the telescope was being streamed on YouTube. One viewer noticed the vortex and promptly informed Ichi Tanaka, the astronomer on duty. Tanaka was unaware of the phenomenon until he checked his messages later. “I only learned about it when I opened Slack,” he recounted to the Guardian. “My jaw dropped,” he added.
Subsection 1.1.1: The SpaceX Connection
On the morning of the sighting, a Falcon 9 rocket launched from Cape Canaveral, Florida, which is believed to have caused the spiral effect seen in the Hawaiian sky. The vortex appeared precisely where the rocket's second stage would have been. Notably, SpaceX has not commented on the reports regarding this incident.
In a similar occurrence earlier this year, Japanese observers witnessed a vortex that was also linked to SpaceX's activities. This was traced back to a Falcon 9 rocket launch from the Vandenberg Space Force Base in California, which likely carried a reconnaissance satellite.
Section 1.2: Falcon 9's Launch Mechanics
The Falcon 9 is a two-stage rocket designed for reusability; its first stage can be recovered after launch, while the second stage burns up upon completing its fuel consumption. The two videos recorded from Hawaii likely depict the second stage of the Falcon 9 as it descended towards the Pacific Ocean.
Chapter 2: Mauna Kea: An Astronomical Haven
With an elevation of 4,205 meters, Mauna Kea offers dry conditions, minimal cloud cover, and low light pollution, making it one of the premier locations for astronomical observation on the planet. According to Tanaka, the vortex would be invisible from areas with significant light pollution, such as major cities. The Subaru Telescope operates in both visible and infrared light, situated at an altitude of 4,139 meters above sea level, equipped to monitor its surroundings effectively.
