Insights Gained from Publishing Two Articles Daily for Three Weeks

What I Discovered from Publishing Two Articles a Day for Three Weeks

My journey has been filled with successes and some intriguing insights…

A Blogger's Experience

This week, I fell short of my goal and didn’t publish my intended ten articles.

Whenever I start feeling enthusiastic or begin to see results, it seems I have a tendency to sabotage my progress.

At one point, I nearly wiped everything clean. It’s certainly indicative of a kind of "disorder." However, recognizing this issue is a step forward, right?

Since I resumed publishing two articles each day, I've noticed some positive outcomes:

  1. Increased Credibility with Publications

I finally gained acceptance into Hello, Love, a platform I had unsuccessfully submitted to several times before. Additionally, I got my first piece published with Start-it-up (GeekCulture) after multiple attempts.

  2. First Article Curated!

I joined Medium back in 2020 but took a hiatus during the pandemic, leaving me with around 10-15 articles that never received curation. Upon returning and publishing ten new pieces in two weeks, my article in GeekCulture also became the first to be curated. I even received my first referral and subscriber that same day!

I felt truly blessed that day!

  3. Increased Revenue and Readership

As expected, my income and viewership rose significantly due to the increased volume of articles.

As of March 11, 2022, I had only been writing on Medium since February 7, 2022.

Over the span of four weeks, I earned about $20!

This is a marked improvement from when I began my account in 2020, where I earned less than $10 monthly.

Medium might as well be called "A penny for your thoughts," but those pennies can accumulate. So, rather than aiming for perfection with just two articles per week, aim for at least one article daily. Two is even better if you want to see tangible progress. This little experiment has indeed paid off!

Bonus Insights

In less than a month, I’ve been featured in some prestigious publications, such as Start-it-Up/GeekCulture and Hello, Love.

I've also made it into P.S. I Hate You, ILLUMINATION, Interfaith Now, Open Letters To, and Writers’ Blokke.

What fascinates me is discovering what resonates with different platforms.

For example, my articles with a religious angle tend to perform poorly on ILLUMINATION, while simpler, shorter, or humorous pieces do quite well.

My article published about two weeks ago garnered only about 11 views.

Conversely, another piece published just a week ago received 35 views.

These two articles, which center on relationships and men, are shorter in length. The variance in views could stem from numerous factors, but I’ve noticed this trend consistently.

However, all hope is not lost. My spiritual narratives thrive on Interfaith Now, outpacing most of my other submissions, with the exception of Hello, Love, which has a vast audience.

Interestingly, one of the articles that’s performing well was one I hardly promoted. I shared it once on Facebook, yet it has outpaced most of my other works.

I wrote it primarily for myself, and I'm thrilled to see it resonate with others:

Not only are my spiritual articles succeeding on Interfaith Now, but they are also generating good income…

Compared to another article on ILLUMINATION that is performing similarly:

Initially, I was puzzled why an article with 33 views earned significantly less than one with just slightly more views at 40.

Then I realized it likely comes down to reading times. Subscribers to Interfaith Now are inclined to engage with articles on spirituality, leading to longer read times compared to the diverse topics found on ILLUMINATION.

In conclusion, I’m content with my progress. I believe I’ve identified my niche with biblical-themed articles. It’s far better to submit niche content to specialized publications rather than generalist ones.

My spiritual articles receive more engagement and better reading times when directed to an audience interested in that subject matter.

Publishing two articles each weekday, when feasible, brings significant benefits.

Publications take you more seriously, you increase your chances of curation, and you accelerate your growth and income.

However, I likely won’t maintain this pace for much longer.

As a single mother about to face an empty nest, I returned to Medium to fill the void when my son heads to college.

Creating two quality articles daily is both time-intensive and tiring. Afterward, marketing and editing them adds even more to the workload.

Moreover, I wish to venture into fiction writing, which will also demand considerable time.

Thus, I plan to hold off on intense publishing until my son transitions to college. I want to cherish the remaining moments we have together before he embarks on his adult life.

We’ll see how it unfolds. For newer writers or those contemplating daily submissions, it all boils down to your objectives on Medium.

If your aim is to earn money, then go for it. But if you simply enjoy blogging and aren’t focused on income, write whenever inspiration strikes.

As for me, I do appreciate making money, yet I’m prepared to take a more gradual approach. With my son leaving for college, I’ll either confront the reality of solitude for the first time in almost two decades or fully immerse myself in blogging.

Sounds like a reasonable plan!

I’ll keep you posted as I get things underway…
