For the last few months, my AirPods Pro have been gathering dust. Yes, those earbuds I once adored have been largely unused, except for the occasional Zoom call. This shift is due to two factors: the right ear tip on my AirPods is broken, and I've found a compelling alternative.
During my review of the OPPO Find X5 Pro earlier this year, I also received a pair of OPPO Enco X earbuds. While I initially focused on the phone, I was allowed to keep the earbuds when returning the device. Ever since, they have become my go-to choice, and I believe they may have taken the lead over Apple in the noise-cancelling earbuds arena.
Here are four reasons why the OPPO Enco X surpasses the AirPods Pro.
Sound Quality: A Game Changer
The first thing that struck me was the superior sound quality of the Enco X. While the AirPods Pro sound decent, they simply can't compete with the Enco X's performance.

In collaboration with Dynaudio, OPPO has harnessed years of audio expertise, meticulously selecting materials and components to craft these earbuds. Their DBEE 3.0 Sound System features a coaxial dual-driver setup and a balanced membrane driver, which together deliver an audio experience usually reserved for premium devices. With rich bass, clear mids, and a non-fatiguing treble, the sound feels vibrant and full of life. While audiophiles might critique them, these earbuds are designed for everyday consumers, and OPPO has truly excelled in this aspect.
Comfort and Fit: A Secure Choice
Earbud fit can be quite subjective, and I've often struggled to find a reliable option. The AirPods Pro fit reasonably well, but I constantly have to adjust the left one while running to keep it in place. On the other hand, the Enco X stay securely in my ears, making them far more comfortable for long periods and during physical activities.
Durable and Functional Case
I have a particular fondness for earbud cases, as they play a crucial role in the overall user experience.

While the AirPods Pro case is functional, it can't hold a candle to the Enco X case. The latter, although larger, feels less cumbersome and more practical for everyday use. OPPO has managed to create a case that is surprisingly easy to carry, and it even comes with USB-C charging—a feature that Apple has yet to embrace.
Price Point: Exceptional Value
When it comes to pricing, there's a significant difference. Apple lists the AirPods Pro at £239, while the OPPO Enco X is available for just £169. In the current economic climate, the Enco X represents a compelling option for consumers seeking quality without breaking the bank.
Pros and Cons of AirPods Pro
While the Enco X has many advantages, the AirPods Pro still have their strengths. Their haptic controls are intuitive and far superior to the touch controls found on many other earbuds, including the Enco X.

Additionally, the AirPods Pro offers spatial audio support, which is a significant draw for users who enjoy watching content on Apple devices. The seamless integration with the Apple ecosystem also makes device switching effortless, which is a major reason I still opt for the AirPods for calls.
Final Thoughts
The Enco X also boasts water and sweat resistance, wireless charging capabilities, excellent noise cancellation, and an impressive 25 hours of playback on a single charge. For the price, they offer exceptional value.

I can see myself using the Enco X until Apple finally updates the AirPods Pro. When that day comes, they will need to deliver something remarkable to win me back.
