Unlocking the Power of Your Mind: Spirituality and Personal Growth

Chapter 1: The Strength of the Mind
The capabilities of the mind are truly remarkable. It often astounds me how much evidence exists demonstrating its potential. Every action begins with a thought: "This needs to be accomplished. Here’s how I’ll achieve it." And then, it gets done! It may seem miraculous or even impossible, but as spiritual beings inhabiting a universe imbued with spirit, we possess the ability to achieve anything.
Reverend Stephanie Sorensen from the Life Enrichment Center in Flint, MI, shared an inspiring message recently: "According to The Science of Mind, the essence within you is complete and perfect, free from worries and burdens. It is unrestricted, limitless, and unconditioned. It embodies pure spirit and cannot be constrained. Celebrate that freedom." She emphasized, "We can celebrate our spiritual liberty even within the confines of our shared human experience. We can liberate ourselves from negative thoughts that hinder our happiness and from limiting beliefs that restrict our full experience of life, allowing us to live with a consistent sense of well-being."
We have the option to break free from the mental barriers that confine us, which often clutter our minds with concepts and ideas, preventing us from truly experiencing life as it was meant to be lived.
Section 1.1: A Journey to Transformation
Reflecting on my past, I remember a time in my early 40s when I weighed over 300 pounds. At 6'2", I was capable of carrying a lot, but this was excessive. I found myself addicted to many things, including cookies and ice cream. To change, I started walking for exercise. Initially dull, I began incorporating short bursts of running. Eventually, I completed a 5K race.
Afterward, in a tent for post-race refreshments amidst the cold February air of Michigan, I noticed flyers for upcoming races, including the Detroit Marathon. I picked one up and thought to myself, "If I can do a 5K, surely I can tackle a marathon." I began to tell everyone I met about my plan to participate in the Detroit Free Press Marathon that October.
As it turned out, I successfully ran the 26.2-mile marathon that October, followed by several more in the years to come. My last marathon was at age 51 in Cleveland. As I approached the finish line, the physical pain of a first-time marathoner hit me, yet I felt an overwhelming mix of tears and laughter. In that moment, I realized I could achieve anything I put my mind to.
Despite facing injuries that eventually halted my running journey, they could not diminish my newfound self-confidence. I came to understand that there is nothing my God and I cannot achieve together!
Section 1.2: Embracing Your Spiritual Identity
Recalling a quote from my childhood hero, Popeye: "I am what I am." I recognize that I am a spiritual being, living in a spiritual universe governed by spiritual laws. As a divine individual, I am an expression of God and interconnected with all existence. By remembering this, I can access the divine wisdom of the universe for guidance; I just need to ask!
Have you ever observed a child marveling at a concert piano or a young person singing an opera flawlessly? No matter how insurmountable your doubts or challenges appear, your God is greater. These children are divine beings! That’s how they accomplish such extraordinary feats.
What does this mean for you? The more you believe that your Higher Power is ready, willing, and able to guide you, the more you will experience that guidance. As the lyrics from Gershwin's classic song "I Got Rhythm" express, "Who could ask for anything more?" You have the opportunity to draw inspiration from your Higher Power. Who could desire anything less?
This indicates that if both the thought and the subsequent action resonate positively, they are indeed correct!
I would love to hear your thoughts in the comments.
Thank you, God!
