Shifting Focus: From Control to Influence in Life

Chapter 1: Understanding Our Place in the Universe
As of today, the global population stands at approximately 8.1 billion individuals according to Worldometer. This means that each person represents just a tiny fraction—0.00000001%—of the total human experience.
Despite this minuscule percentage, each of us harbors unique aspirations, fears, desires, and preferences. I once held the misguided belief that through specific actions and mental frameworks, I could manipulate the behavior of others to achieve personal goals—like securing a promotion or enhancing personal relationships to benefit myself.
However, I found that when things didn't unfold as I envisioned (and spoiler alert: they rarely did, about 99% of the time), it led to a bruised ego and a decline in my kindness and compassion.
A pivotal moment occurred in November 2023 while I was revisiting the film “Devil’s Advocate.” A memorable line by Al Pacino struck a chord: “Who are you carrying all those bricks for, anyway?” This prompted me to reflect on whether my efforts were truly necessary for my family, friends, or society, all of whom could thrive without my supposed control. Ultimately, everyone will pursue their own paths based on their beliefs and desires.
Thus, rather than attempting to 'save the world' or steer humanity toward a better future, I redirected my focus toward honing my skills in everyday activities—like perfecting my macaroni and cheese recipe.
Surprisingly, this shift yielded more positive outcomes for both me and my immediate circle than any grand gestures I had previously attempted.
Thank you!
