# Why Passion Should Drive Income: A Personal Perspective

Written on

Chapter 1: The Misconception of Passion Without Profit

I often come across individuals on Medium who express that simply writing articles on this platform fulfills them, and they have little interest in earning money from it. While I respect their enthusiasm and wholeheartedly support their creative pursuits, I disagree with the notion that passion should not also yield financial rewards.

Why do I hold this view?

In my perspective, if you are genuinely passionate about something and excel at it, you should aim to maximize its financial potential. Enjoying an activity does not imply it should be devoid of income generation. In fact, I believe you should strive to enhance the revenue derived from your passion to the extent that it allows you to eventually leave your day job.

For me, writing articles on Medium has evolved from a mere interest into a profound passion. There are times when I find myself away from home, and I eagerly anticipate returning to craft another piece. This passion has not hindered my financial growth; rather, I continuously work towards increasing my earnings, which I then invest in a stock portfolio that yields dividends every three months.

My aspiration is to achieve financial independence within the next 15 years, enabling me to leave my current engineering position—one I do not dislike but do not consider a passion—and dedicate myself fully to writing on Medium.

Therefore, regardless of what your passion may be, it is crucial to discover ways to monetize it. With the abundance of platforms such as YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok, this has become increasingly accessible.

What are your thoughts? Is it acceptable to engage in a passion without concern for financial gain?
