Chapter 1: The Climate Shift

Greetings to all the snow enthusiasts out there! Here in France, we’ve experienced a dramatic drop in temperatures, plummeting from 26°C last week to below 5°C today. As a result, I've had to embrace the cold and head into the office. Check this out:

Hmm, it appears there hasn’t been any change in earnings! It seems like the “Medium Partner Program” algorithm is as frozen as I am!

As is my routine:

To thoroughly test everything…

To ensure I’m not providing “rubbish” to my readers…

And once again, I’m met with just 4 views and zero reads. Even though my article is still new, it’s disheartening. The ratio of time invested to views is dismal. Upon examining the statistics in more detail, I discovered the following.

On one hand:

My “technical” articles, which take considerable time to craft, receive a fair number of views and reads (which is significant for me), but they yield only a few cents in earnings—just $0.05 per read for my two most popular pieces!

On the other hand:

The posts that perform best in terms of earnings are from my “Lunch Time Chilin’” series, generating approximately $2.00 from just 4 reads—equating to $0.50 per read! I’m bewildered by how this is possible! I can’t seem to grasp how the earnings algorithm functions. If anyone knows the secrets behind it, please share in the comments.

As a result, I’m seriously contemplating a shift in my writing niche. Although I genuinely enjoy writing about tech topics, I may need to pivot towards other interests, such as the ongoing AI revolution or leveraging my “Software Engineer skills” alongside cryptocurrency insights and tips to explore profitable side hustles.
