A fresh beginning can manifest in various forms. Major life events, such as changing jobs, relocating to a different country, or welcoming a new child, often come to mind.
The idea of these transformative moments is always exhilarating and romantic in theory. However, the reality is rarely as glamorous. To truly create your ideal life, it’s essential to understand that transformation stems not just from significant events, but from the small, daily adjustments you make that contribute to a happier and more meaningful existence.
Recently, I found myself yearning for a new beginning. Time seems to fly by, and I often feel like every day blends into the next. Yet, I recognize that this perception is misleading. Major changes often arise from a series of minor adjustments. I've made small tweaks in my life that are guiding me toward my dream existence.
I Decided to Cancel Streaming Subscriptions
I’ve never been someone who relishes watching movies solo on a Friday night or binge-watching series during my downtime. While there’s nothing wrong with enjoying a film with friends, I don’t even have a television in my new apartment, so hosting such gatherings isn't on the horizon.
I mulled over this decision for months, often postponing it because streaming memberships seem to be the norm these days. It felt like I was isolating myself, even though I rarely utilized my subscriptions. However, I finally made the choice to let go. My subscriptions will officially end in two weeks, but I've already logged out, deleted my accounts, and mentally closed that chapter.
I Returned to the Gym
Having moved to a new city six months ago for a job opportunity, I’ve since established a routine that feels comfortable. It was time to reintegrate a solid workout regimen into my life.
Currently, I'm still acclimating to my plan of going to the gym three times a week while enjoying the process. From past experiences, I've struggled with over-exercising, so I’m cautious about not imposing strict fitness targets on myself. My aim is simply to enjoy moving my body. Enhancing my strength and fitness will come in due time. The good news is that we can adapt whenever we feel it's necessary.
I Tried HelloFresh for Meal Prep
Cooking for just one person can be challenging. I can't count the number of times I’ve had to toss out spoiled food, which I despise. To combat this, I decided to explore HelloFresh.
Of course, there are both advantages and disadvantages to this service. One major downside is the cost, but I concluded that investing in my health with nutritious meals justifies the extra expense.
As I write this at the end of week two, I’m thrilled to experiment with various recipes. I’m keeping the recipes, and even if I stop ordering the boxes, I’ll have an array of easy-to-cook options moving forward. So far, I've discovered new vegetables and cooking methods, and I appreciate not needing to grocery shop as frequently.
I Eliminated Sugary Treats
For me, chocolate and sugar have been my vices. While some people struggle with caffeine, alcohol, or smoking, sugar has always been my weakness. I previously abstained from sugar for about six months in 2019 and remember feeling fantastic during that time.
With a lot of stress in my life, chocolate became my go-to source of comfort, providing a quick energy boost while masking my negative emotions. However, the fleeting pleasure didn’t outweigh the longer-term issues like skin problems and persistent cravings.
Currently, I’m refraining from sugary snacks until Easter. Three weeks in, I feel significantly better and no longer crave chocolate. It’s easier to turn down temptations, even when faced with delicious Royal Donuts at a colleague's birthday celebration!
This journey allows me to address my feelings rather than suppress them with food. Although these changes may seem minor, I can already see an improvement in my quality of life.
