Building a Business from the Ground Up: Insights and Progress

Chapter 1: The Journey Begins
Welcome to "From Scratch," a series where I share my journey of establishing a new business from the ground up. Each week, I’ll provide updates on my progress and the lessons I've learned along the way.
Values Over Beliefs
A thought-provoking quote from Adam Grant's Think Again resonated with me: "Who you are should be a question of what you value, not what you believe." This statement made me reflect deeply on my identity, both present and past.
Rewinding to this time last year, I found myself in a difficult place. I felt trapped, using my entrepreneurial efforts as an escape rather than a source of fulfillment. My former self was burdened by beliefs that shaped my identity, some of which I have since discarded. For instance, I used to think that happiness was contingent on significant changes in my external circumstances, leading me to work relentlessly toward that goal, often neglecting my focus—one of my core strengths.
My daily routine was filled with tasks I felt obligated to complete rather than those I truly wanted to pursue. I believed that enduring my situation was the only option until something shifted.
However, after a considerable amount of distress, I decided to create guiding principles for myself. Although I had read Principles by Ray Dalio multiple times, I had never put his insights into action. It became clear to me that I needed to establish a framework to prevent repeating my past mistakes.
I crafted some flexible principles based on my values, not dictated by notions of right and wrong, but focused on how I wanted to navigate my journey. The distinction between beliefs and values is crucial; beliefs can often be uprooted if they aren't deeply personal.
Observing content creators sharing their ideas online, it's evident that their beliefs frequently shift as they seek out new echo chambers. This can be especially perilous for those lacking confidence in their independent thinking. All it takes is for a so-called "guru" to showcase exaggerated results, and many people may find themselves easily swayed.
It's important to seek advice from others, yet it's equally vital to assess whether the beliefs you hold are genuinely yours. You might discover that some beliefs you’ve accepted conflict with your true values. If you haven’t yet defined a personal set of principles, that’s perfectly acceptable.
To evaluate your beliefs, consider how they make you feel. If any negative emotions arise—tension, guilt, or discomfort—it might be time for a reassessment.
So, I encourage you to formulate some guiding principles. This approach may simplify decision-making regarding various opportunities and relationships. As you establish your values, you'll naturally develop your own beliefs.
Week 57: Progress Updates
Having built a solid foundation, I feel ready to broaden my focus beyond fighters to include professional athletes. This has been on my mind for some time, and recently, I’ve begun to explore this avenue through outreach efforts. While discussions are still in the initial stages, they have sparked intriguing possibilities.
Despite ongoing conversations, I sense that many people are currently traveling, which is understandable. Nevertheless, I’m growing steadily—my subscriber count has increased to 2,430, a notable rise from zero this time last year.
On a personal note, my hearing has returned to normal after just one visit to the Minute Clinic. It's remarkable how much we appreciate our senses once they are compromised.
In closing, I remain committed to progressing in the right direction and am eager to see where this journey takes me. Trust in the process and embrace it.
